My thoughts on Ed Ruscha

After watching the video about Ed Ruscha, I am very intrigued about his creativity. It wass very interesting to see his artwork develop over time. When he was younger, he painted words, and then made the words seem like they were being pulled or crunched. Then he made the words look like they were made out of water or syrup or other substances. It was then almost like he had an epiphany and realized that he could paint with actual food. After painting with food, he made a movie about a car mechanic and then continued to make more simple yet captivating paintings. It seriously sounded like Ed Ruscha never ran out of ideas or inspiration. My favorite painting was the “Picture Without Words” from Ruscha in 1997. The narrator and Larry Gagosinn describe the piece best: “you can kind of look at it forever,” “This God-like painting.”
