The essay, “Getting Picked,” by Seth Godin had some amazing insight on career pathways. Godin basically describes how we all want to get picked, often we wait to get picked, but sometimes it’s important that we pick ourselves or we’ll spend our whole lives waiting. Godin claims, “Once you reject that impulse and realize that no one is going to select you … then you can actually get to work. I think this is fabulous advice because as I look towards my future and what my career might be, I think it’s important to know that I can’t just wait to get picked and carried to the top of my field, but I have to work for it and get myself there.
